LNHRA At Memphis: All Winning Cars On Goodyear Tires
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2008) – Either you had Goodyear tires or your car didn’t win at the O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park
Goodyear-shod cars won every class the tiremaker had an entry in, the winningest performance at an NHRA national event by any tiremaker this season. The Goodyear-equipped winners swept the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series sportsman classes and won all of the four-wheeled POWERade Drag Racing Series professional classes.
The Goodyear winners included Tony Schumacher (in Top Fuel), Tim Wilkerson (Funny Car), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock), Arnie Martel (Competition Eliminator), Edmond Richardson (Super Stock), Adam Davis (Stock) and Carl Shane (Super Gas).
Schumacher beat Doug Herbert in the final round of Top Fuel, improving his already stout lead in the NHRA Countdown to One playoff competition. Wilkerson knocked off Ashley Force in the final and increased his Funny Car lead.
Edwards collected his second win of the season and the 15th of his career by beating Jason Line in the final. Edwards moved up to fifth place in the countdown and Line improved to third. Jeg Coughlin leads Kurt Johnson 2,277 to 2,245 in the close Pro Stock title hunt.
Shane took his first career national victory in his first trip to the final round. Davis won his first national victory in only his second appearance in the finals.
Martel collected his third national victory of the season with a hole shot victory in his final. It was his ninth career national win.
Richardson’s win was his 43rd in a national event.
