Gingras Claims Serie ACT Castrol Championship

ST.-EUSTACHE, Quebec (Sept. 22, 2008) – Sylvain Lacombe won the St. Eustache 300 but Alexandre Gingras took home the big prize as the Serie ACT Castrol completed its 2008 season at Autodrome St. Eustache.

Gingras finished 17th, just good enough to edge Karl Allard for the championship. Allard finished eighth in the race and second in the standings, missing the championship by three points.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Serie ACT Castrol as well as the American Canadian Tour. The two series operate under the same rulebook. Short tracks around the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada use the same rulebook to govern the weekly late model stock car divisions and race on the same bias-ply Goodyear Racing Eagles the touring series use.

The race was scheduled for 300 laps, but a brief rain delay slowed the event and it was stopped after 200 laps due to the track’s curfew.

Lacombe edged Normand Lavigueur for the race win. Patrick Laperle finished third, followed by Jacques Laperle and Jean-Francois Dery.

Gingras lost 11 laps to the leaders when he pitted to repair a broken wheel hub. Allard was running with the race leaders early in the event, but a spin put him back in the field.
