Post Race Report - Dover

Event: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Camping World RV 400 (Race No. 28 of 36)

Location: Dover International Speedway; Dover, Del.

Top-five finishers: Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson

Greg BiffleRace recap:
Greg Biffle qualified for NASCAR's playoff-format Chase for the Sprint Cup without visiting victory lane in the 26-race "regular season." All he has done is win both races since, including at Dover International Speedway on Sunday.

Biffle took the lead from Roush-Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth on lap 392, and then stretched out to nearly a one second advantage over the final nine laps. Biffle led a sweep of the top three spots by Roush-Fenway drivers, with Kenseth finishing second and Carl Edwards coming home in third.

After polesitter Jeff Gordon and Jamie McMurray controlled the early laps of the race, Kenseth emerged from the first full round of pit stops in the lead and paced the field between laps 66-187. That 122-lap stretch up front was the longest consecutive run for any driver all day. Overall there were 12 lead changes among eight drivers.

The race was fairly uneventful from the tire standpoint, though three drivers -- Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joe Nemechek and Juan Pablo Montoya -- wore through tires by running in the high line of the track that had less rubber laid down and was more abrasive. Those incidents contributed to the total of 10 caution flags on the day.

In the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Edwards took over sole possession of the top spot after two of 10 races. He currently holds a 10-point advantage over Johnson and Biffle as the series heads to Kansas Speedway next week.

Companion event:
Kyle Busch led 157 of 207 laps to win the NASCAR Natonwide Series race at Dover on Saturday. The victory was Busch's eighth in the series this season, which goes with eight Sprint Cup and three Craftsman Truck wins on the season. Clint Bowyer now leads Carl Edwards by 186 points in the series' championship standings.

Goodyear quote -- Greg Stucker:
"The high-banked, high-speed configuration of Dover, along with the concrete surface, creates a challenge for the tires all day long. Our new tire recommendation, utilizing a more tractive right-side compound, worked very well and made for some great racing."
