Laperle, Team USA Win ACT Showdown At Chaudiere
VALLEE-JONCTION, Quebec, Canada (Sept. 8. 2008) – Patrick Laperle won the individual medal and Team USA took collective honors in the Coors Light 200 Showdown late model stock car race at Autodrome Chaudiere. The race was a non-points event sanctioned by the American-Canadian Tour Late Model Championship Series.
Laperle and race leader Donald Theetge came together on lap 142 of the 200-lap race and Theetge spun out. Alexandre Gingras slipped by both of the leaders, but Laperle later got by Gingras and went on to win the $5,000 winner’s prize.
The race pitted 11 cars from the US-based American Canadian Tour against 11 cars from the Canadian-based Serie ACT Castrol. Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for both series and the tiremaker contributed $5,000 in racing tires to the 11 cars on the winning team. A special points system devised for team scoring gave the US-based drivers a 106-147 victory.
The tires Goodyear produces for ACT and for the Serie ACT Castrol are also supplied to the tracks around the region that use the ACT rulebook for weekly late model stock car programs.
Laperle is an ACT regular and represented the US, even though he lives in Canada. Gingras (Team Canada) finished second, followed by Brent Dragon (US), Scott Payea (US) and Karl Allard (Canada). Three of the top five finishers started 10th or worse.
